Wildlife Garden
This design was all about creating a wildlife haven in the heart of the city. My design revolves around the creation of a generous pond with many marginal plants, which leads seamlessly into relaxed woodland-style planting with native trees. Log piles add both architectural interest and further wildlife habitat. A hidden log seating area is reached via a small path, whilst a bold zig-zagging boardwalk takes you out across the water.
A decking area leading out from a covered seating area provides a sanctuary to watch the dragonflies zipping by, swallows dipping, and the ever-changing reflections in the water’s surface. A relaxed place to enjoy the sunshine, the pond is deep enough here to jump in and enjoy swimming.
A sloped lawn leads away from the far side of the pond to a meadow and native hedging, encouraging both pollinators and birds. The slope helps to enclose the garden, as well as enriching views of it from several seating areas and the house.
Beside the house, a permanent structure of domed Yews both mirror the hedge surrounding the garden and provide permanent structure. A fragrant walkway links this area of the garden to the main patio. Planted up with scented roses and billowing flowers, this sunken, sunny area is the perfect place to dine and entertain.
